HISTORY

On August 7, 1962 the Parkway Church of God was organized on the campus of the Smoky Mountain Children's Home in Sevierville, Tennessee with 107 active members. Reverend Robert Humbertson was selected to serve as the first pastor. In 2012, we will celebrate our church's fiftieth anniversary. Praise the Lord! God has used this congregation for His glory and honor, and we give Him all the credit!
In 2008, our congregation unexpectedly found ourselves looking at the need for relocation. As we prayed and asked the Lord for His guidance and direction, a door was opened for us to purchase the former Evergreen Church property just across the river from the Children's Home campus. Taking a leap of faith, we went through this open door. God has been so faithful to us as a congregation and has provided for us every step of the way!
As we look forward in faith to our fiftieth anniversary in August of 2012, our hearts are filled with anticipation and expectancy, recognizing that God is calling us to fulfill His mission during these strategic days. Biblically, every fiftieth year for Israel was a “Year of Jubilee” when slaves were set free, debts were forgiven, and the land was returned to its original caretakers. This year of rest and celebration brought Israel back to the ideals upon which God founded His kingdom.
As we eagerly long for God’s kingdom to be established in us and through us, our hearts are compelled to recognize the significance of the time in which we live. Believing that God has called the Parkway congregation to represent Jesus to our community and our world, we recognize that a harvest is waiting all around us. Our passion is to reach Sevierville and beyond with the love of Christ and the good news of His salvation.
On August 7, 2011 our fiftieth year as a congregation will begin. We will proclaim August 7, 2011 through August 7, 2012 as our “Year of Jubilee”. Perhaps God is calling you to participate in our preparations leading up to "Jubilee 2012" and beyond. Please look below at our vision, purpose, values, and mission. We want to please the Lord in all that we do.

VISION

Denise and I have a vision for the Parkway congregation that goes above and beyond anything we have experienced during our lifetime. This vision includes equipping the best ministry possible for our children and youth -- passing the torch to the next generation with fire from God and a passion from our hearts. We believe that God has blessed us unexpectedly with an ideal new location and facility that can serve as a hub for authentic ministry, and as a launching pad for genuine outreach into our rapidly-growing community.
Imagine a body of believers well-equipped in prayer and in the Word of God, sacrificing in humility to reach every soul possible before the coming of the Lord! We believe that our current congregation can serve as the core and the hub for an expanding outreach that will touch those that no one else is touching and reach those that no one else is reaching. We are boldly asking God for "Greater Things" (John 14:12)!
